Hi everyone,
Just after some advise if possible.
I had Cdiff last year for 31/2 months which cleared in August 09, just been in hospital last week with severe tonsilitis, they gave me Penicillin 250mgs 2 4 times a day which i now only have 6 tablets left and seem to have done the job.
But guess what the D has returned and I am convinced I have Cdiff back.
I have my sample ready to take to the doctor tomorrow but was wondering if anyone has had Cdiff from Penicillin as the hospital doctors seem to think it was unlikely I would get it from this antibiotic.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

Dear Louise
Whilst there are high risk antibiotics such as cephalosporins and clindamycin which is one of the worst culprits for causing cdiff there are many other antibiotics that can also cause problems too penicillin being one that can occasionally cause problems.
I hope by now you have had your results back and fingers crossed it has come back negative and the diarrhoea was just a reaction to the penicillin.

Hi there,
Thanks for replying, got my results yesterday and it came back negative so feel pleased with that. Still having some D and pain but the doctor seems to think this is from the penicillin upsetting my rather sensitive bowel now!
I will be observing this and know if it gets worse then another sample will be needed to rule of the CDiff.
Thanks again for your response and I shall keep you posted.

If it continues insist on being tested again.
3 samples from seperate episodes should rule it out 99%
Its not the usual UK regime but it makes sense so suggest it to your Dr
Pens not a big offender and only 20% af antibiotic D is C.diff so chances are your ok
good luck!!!
